Designed to measure the gloss of surfaces that cannot be measured using traditional glossmeters. The Novo-Gloss Flex 60 glossmeter unites the functionality and reporting of an advanced gloss-meter with an ultra lightweight remote measuring head. IMPROVED PERFORMANCE IN LOW GLOSS APPLICATIONS. The Novo-Gloss Flex 60 has been designed especially to measure low gloss surfaces. It features an additional measuring scale with a resolution that is 10 times greater than standard gloss-meters. This increased resolution gives a far superior level of control of surface finish. The Novo-Gloss Flex 60 complies to ISO 2813 and ASTM D523 and measurements made with the instrument are compatible with traditional gloss-meters complying to these standards.
WHY MEASURE GLOSS?
The perception of gloss is as important as the color of an object when a consumer is considering a purchase. A lustrous and shiny appearance on a surface is created when gloss is used. The amount of gloss a surface has is affected by the amount and type applied, the quality of the substrate and the smoothness achieved. When a manufacturer chooses a design for their products they want to create maximum appeal and so will consider things such as how glossy, reflective and satin something can be made to look. Gloss levels are achieved consistently on every product or across different groups of products. Gloss is sometimes used to measure the quality of a surface, for instance, a drop in the gloss of a coated surface may indicate problems with its cure, leading to other issues such as poor sticking power or lack of protection for the coated surface. Many manufacturing industries monitor the gloss of their products, from cars, printing and even food, pharmaceuticals and consumer electronics.
HOW IS GLOSS MEASURED?
To measure gloss you must shine a known amount of light at a surface and quantify the reflectance. You have to consider the angle of the light and the way the reflectance is measured are determined by surface and the aspect of the surface appearance that needs to be measured. The Gloss unit is the unit of measurement known as (GU) the scale of measurement at 60 degrees is 0-1000GU where 0 is a matt surface and 1000 is a perfect mirror. The Novo-Gloss Flex 60 has a measurement range of 0-125 GU and can measure anything from matt surfaces to high gloss finishes. You tend to find these finishes in the automotive industry. The added measuring range of GU offers a x10 resolution when measuring very low gloss surfaces of 0-12.5 GU. The Novo-Gloss Flex 60 comes with two calibration standards for low and high gloss offering increased accuracy and resolution for low gloss surfaces. The calibration standards are magnetically enclosed which offers superior protection from contamination. The standards are magnetically attached to the instrument measuring head to ensure repeatable calibration.
The instrument comes with interchangeable measurement adaptors.
